BUTTER TART & SOUS-CHEF SHOW-DOWN COMING TO PETERBOROUGH

MORROW BUILDING, PETERBOROUGH FARMERS’ MARKET – From 9am to 1pm on Saturday, September 23, the 5th annual Butter Tart Tour Taste-Off will decide the best butter tarts from across Kawarthas Northumberland. This year the event also features an “Iron-Chef-Style” show down between the best sous-chefs in the region.

The award-winning Butter Tart Tour features more than 50 local bakeries. At the annual Taste-Off, bakers will compete for butter tart bragging rights in five categories.

Taste-off Times – September 23, 2017

  • 9:00 AM – Best Plain Butter Tart
  • 9:45 AM – Best “Canadiana” Butter Tart (from our new Canadiana Inspired Collection of flavours celebrating Canada 150)
  • 10:30 AM – Best Gluten-Free Butter Tart
  • 11:15 AM – Best Emerging Baker (for new bakers on the tour)
  • 12:00 PM – Best of the Best (past winners compete in this category)

“This event just keeps getting sweeter! This year it’ll be savoury too,” said Celebrity Chef and Food Network superstar David Adjey, who will be one of the judges again this year. “We’ve got a live Sous-Chef challenge with local ingredients. We’re going to find the best up-and-coming chef from the region.”

The judges aren’t the only ones who get to sink their teeth into this yummy competition. Butter tarts and other locally-made treats will be available for purchase from the bakeries inside the Morrow Building. Visitors can also indulge themselves by picking up some fresh, local produce while they are at the Farmers’ Market. The Taste-off is using entire Morrow Building this year. There will be more space for more tarts than ever before, including coffee stations, seating areas, and a Kids Zone. Additional parking and a shuttle service are available at the Canadian Canoe Museum.

Until September 12, fans have a chance to win a coveted spot as a judge. Details can be found on the Butter Tart Tour website: www.buttertarttour.ca.
